Edwards Barn Wedding by Weston Neuschafer

You know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, in the case of Mena wedding it took a village to plan a wedding — the perfect wedding. Zachary and Nicole Mena come from VERY large families so it was only natural for both families to join forces to create the most DIY Pinterest family shin-dig. The Mena wedding was held at the Edwards Barn in Nipomo using the rustic sun kissed barn doors as the anchor to their ceremony. Weston Neuschafer was the photographer of the day who caught all the love and family craziness.

Girl Meets Boy…

Six years ago, I met my future husband at my 22nd birthday party. I had just graduated from college, and my friends and I decided we were going to have one last big HA-RAH before I left, so we planned a wine tour for 30 of our closest friends followed by a huge house party in San Luis Obispo. We had two open seats in the limo for the tour, so my trusted roommate invited a friend, Zack (unbeknownst to me, my future husband!). Although much of that day is a blur, I remember his smile from when he introduced himself and his first text asking me on a real date after the party.  Later I found out my roommate had set us up! It’s six years later I am still so happy he did. 🙂

Wedding Planning Inspiration…

Our Family! I used to live on my grandparents’ family farm, about a mile from where we were married, and my husband was raised in the country in Agua Dulce.  Keeping these things in mind, a rustic barn wedding in the middle of nowhere just felt like us! Zack and I aren’t what I would describe as classy or traditional. We are more like crazy and romantical. The rustic theme gave us a lot of room to design and create all our own decorations, signs, and even furniture for the wedding.

As guests entered, they were surrounded by our families creations from pieces of artwork, signage, dessert bar, 4 foot cake, furniture, appetizers, photobooth, all the way to the drinks they were drinking. It was perfect. Everywhere you looked was a conversation starter. But my two favorite details are the 7 foot heart we got married under and sitting at our sweat heart table underneath the wedding pictures of our parents and grandparents who are all still married.

The 7 foot heart is important to me because I created it with my dad and grandpa down the street from the venue. In italian fashion we yelled, threw up our hands, argued on if it was possible and then smiled when the finished product was completed. The venue still has our heart  up on the barn  every time I drive to my grandparents house I get to see a piece of my wedding!

Color Palet…

Pastels!! Anything and everything pastel.

Memorable Moments…

The dip kiss! The kiss that every girl dreams of. The foot popping, heart throbbing, picture perfect kiss. I was so SHOCKED and excited that I am pretty sure I asked to do it again the second I got back to my feet.

RADDEST Wedding Vendors…

Stems (florist) — Monica Turned my rustic barn venue into a romantic haven. Instead of just putting together flowers that went with my color scheme, she created a story and arrangements that really reflected my husband and my relationship. Our wedding style was untraditional with a classic love them and her flower choices matched that completely from succulents to heirloom garden roses.

Weston Neuschafer (photographer) — I am pretty awkward and I just get more awkward in front of a cameras. Weston was able to take my camera shy fears away and created a calm exciting environment for my husband and I. His eye for the perfect moments is amazing and I am so pleased with all the pictures.

Edwards Barn- The most loving and thoughtful family! Their family is also large so they understood the crazy dynamic of mine. They worked side by side to my family and helped us make our ideas reality. Also, they are AMAZING cooks!!!!

Epic Entertainment- I am an event producer so I knew exactly what kind of lighting I wanted and what personality I needed for my wedding and Anthony created exactly what I had dreamed of. But the best part is he fit in well with my family. He ran the party and everyone still talks about all the crazy games.

Advice for Other “Newbie Brides”…

Keep Calm and remember the ONLY important detail on your wedding day is that you and your husband are together!  Wedding crashers, missing decorations and even rain can’t ruin your day as long as you have eachother!
